ST. CHARLES – Bistro One West, which opened in December 2010 at 1 W. Illinois St. in the former site of Sage Bistro and Erik & Me, has closed.
“We have officially closed the restaurant,” owner George Guggeis said in an email to the Kane County Chronicle. He could not be reached for further comment Wednesday, and no information about the restaurant’s closing was available on its website or Facebook page.
The restaurant featured fresh American cuisine such as steak, seafood and homemade pasta. A Chicago-area publication last year named Bistro One West as one of the best new restaurants in the Chicago area.
Zee Harmon, owner of the Bull & Bear Tobacco Shop, located a few doors down from Bistro One West in the Fox Island Square center, said she will miss Guggeis and his restaurant.
“He was a great neighbor and a friend of our store,” Harmon said.
She also was a big fan of the restaurant’s food.
“I will never have a bacon cheddar burger the way he fixed it,” Harmon said. “He had a great restaurant. I liked everything he made.”
Guggeis previously owned Mango restaurant in Chicago and managed Trattoria No. 10 restaurant in Chicago. He described his vision for Bistro One West on the restaurant’s website.
“The menu at Bistro One West uses fresh ingredients with simple, artisan techniques to create a number of flavor profiles for a high quality, modern American cuisine,” he stated.
