Sycamore man faces sexual abuse charges

SYCAMORE – Bond was set at $100,000 for a 28-year-old Sycamore man charged with having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.

Chad S. Fant, of the 300 block of North Maple Street in Sycamore, was charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted, Fant could face three to seven years in prison for each count.

Fant appeared during a hearing at the DeKalb County Courthouse via closed-circuit TV from the county jail.

According to court documents, Fant had sexual contact with a minor older than 13 but younger than 17 in July. Gary Dumdie, chief deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators became aware of the situation after the family reported it.

He said the relationship was not ongoing and the minor was not a family member.

Presiding Judge Robbin Stuckert said Fant can have absolutely no contact with the minor.

The public defender’s office was appointed to represent Fant, who will appear in court again Aug. 27.

The case was reassigned to Associate Judge William Brady because Fant has other pending charges in Brady’s courtroom.
