Video transfer business opens in Northland Mall

STERLING – If you want to bring some of your old video footage into the 21st century, a new business in Northland Mall can help you.

Michael Craft, who converts home movies to DVDs, opened Seymour-Memreez on Sunday.

He does all transfers on location at his kiosk in front of Shoe Sensations. Verizon, which previously occupied the kiosk, left in May.

Converting on location keeps costs down for customers, Craft said. He charges $7.99 for every DVD he produces, unless he's converting from 8 mm film, in which case he charges $7.99 for every 50 feet of film. He can produce a memorial disc for a funeral within 24 hours, he said.

Craft, 42, of Prophetstown, converts footage from analog cassette tapes, VHS, VHS-C, DV, mini DV, video8, 8 mm and super 8 mm film.

His service has allowed some customers to see footage they haven't seen in 20 to 40 years, Craft said.

Once the footage is converted, customers are better able to share the memories with family and friends. "You can share your history," he said.

Craft also uses lasers to put personalized photos on the DVDs without ink, he said.

Seymour-Memreez is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
