Brunswick Zone closes in Algonquin

The Brunswick Zone bowlling alley at 2075 E. Algonquin Road has split.

The 32-lane facility closed at the end of May, according to Algonquin Community Development Director Russ Farnum.

"We haven't had a lot of time to think about uses for the building," Farnum said. "The property just came on the market. The village is open to ideas and suggestions."

The property is being listed with Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The site is owned by Brunswick Corp., headquartered in Lake Forest.

"They took all the lanes out. It's a big empty shell with a kitchen," Farnum said.

The bowling alley was popular with league bowlers. Outside there was miniature golf and batting cages.

A Brunswick Zone XL opened about five years ago five miles away at 1161 S. Randall Road in Algonquin. It has six more lanes than the Algonquin Road location, plus a Game Zone arcade and laser tag.

The Randall Road location also features three event rooms for birthday parties and other celebrations, a bar on the concourse, and its main lounge, the Fireside Bar, according a worker who answered the phone at the facility.

Mike Fasolo, vice president, operations, for Brunswick Bowling & Billiards, said the Algonquin Road Brunswick was closed as a result of the Brunswick Zone XL opening on Randall Road. "We are particularly excited about this (Randall Road) center in particular as it is a best-in-class example of what we offer in an active entertainment destination," Fasolo said.

Fasolo added that there are 15 other Brunswick centers in Illinois, four of them XL facilities. There are 85 Brunswick entertainment centers across the U.S.

"We continue to look for locations to open additional centers, and we are investing significantly in a number of our existing locations to bring the latest generation scoring systems and displays," Fasolo said.
