STERLING – The owner of the local Arthur’s Garden Deli restaurant chain appears to be fixing up the former Beef-A-Roo building.
Scott A. and Eileen Wolber have owned the building at 2913 E. Lincolnway since April 27, according to the deed. On Jan. 4, he took out a permit at the city building department to replace a dilapidated kitchen wall and light fixtures, and to work on the vents.
It’s not known what he has in mind for the former fast-food spot; Wolber has not returned calls seeking comment.
Wolber owns Arthur’s delicatessens in Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon and Rock Island, and the Don Pedro’s restaurant in Sterling.
Crystal Cork opens banquet room
DIXON – When you’re standing in the Crystal Cork Wine Shoppe’s wine cellar, owner Eric Brantley said, it doesn’t seem like a basement.
The room, which fits 48 people, is available for birthday, Christmas and other parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners and wedding receptions.
“It has open-beamed ceilings and limestone walls,” Brantley said. “Everyone says the same thing: ‘Wow, this is really cool.’ They get to the bottom of the stairs, and they usually say the same thing.”
Lisa LeFevre’s art hangs on the walls, and the bar is made from reclaimed lumber from the second floor.
The Crystal Cork is at 219 W. First St. in downtown Dixon. Cost depends on the party, but usually runs about $150 for 3 hours. Call Brantley at 815-440-4969.
Green River moving to Sterling

Fenwick is downsizing to a smaller space, about one-third the size of his current shop, he said. He intends to stop selling mass-produced bicycles and focus on repairs, he said. He also may start doing specialized fittings and customizing bikes, he said.
Fenwick hopes to close the Dixon location by end of May. He plans to discontinue business at the Dixon location by today, he said. He has repair jobs that need to be done, he said. He then will need several months before opening the Sterling shop, he said.
