Mr. Larry Lee Kingman, 78, of Morris, Ill., passed away in his home Friday, March 9, 2012, with his family at his bedside.
Born July 27, 1933, in Morris, he was the son of the late Gordon W. and Ruby Nell (Hopkins) Kingman. Larry was raised and educated in Mazon. Shortly after completing high school, Larry entered the United States Army, where he would serve during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Germany. He earned the National Defense Service Medal while serving his country. Larry served in the Reserves until 1959.
On Oct. 27, 1956, Larry married Nadine Bell of Morris and they spent their entire married life in Morris.
For many years Larry was employed by the Morris Paper Mill, Labor Local 75, and as a custodian at Saratoga School, from where he retired in 1992.
He was a member of the American Legion in Morris, Fraternal Order of Eagles and First Presbyterian Church. He was also a past member of Morris Moose Lodge.
Larry was an avid Cubs Fan and enjoyed gardening and giving the produce of the garden to his friends and neighbors.
Surviving are his wife, Nadine; five children, Diane Barry of Morris, Larry "Butch" Kingman Jr. of Morris, Carol (Stephen) Phillips of Morris, Barbara (Dave) Masticola of New Jersey, and Connie Kingman of Morris; four grandchildren, Edward Barry, Kelly Barry, Joseph Kingman and Lee Ann Kingman; one great-grandson, Parker Barry; and sisters Jackie Santchi, Sue Johnson, Peggy Johnson, Nancy LaGue, Ginny Matteson and Jane Darling.
Mr. Kingman was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, J.C. Kingman, Gordon "Sonny" Kingman Jr. and Jerry Kingman; and one sister, Gail Thompson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the U. C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Roy Backus of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Morris Color Guard.
Memorials may be made in Larry's name to Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice or the Morris Hospital Transportation Department.
