The Amboy Clippers took a lead into the locker room at halftime of their Class 2A Somonauk Regional quarterfinal game against Somonauk on Tuesday night, but couldn’t hold off the Bobcats in the second half in a 47-43 loss.
The Clippers (6-20) held Somonauk to four second-quarter points and led 21-15 at the break. But the Bobcats outscored Amboy 32-22 in the second half to advance to today’s semifinal against Mendota.
Tyson Powers led the Clippers with 15 points, while Mike Stephenitch scored 11 and Damon Quest added nine. Powers and Quest each hit three 3-pointers.
Colin Stahl scored 11 points and Jake Krischel added 10 for Somonauk.
Plano 57, Oregon 31: The Reapers shot 51 percent from the field (25-for-49) and held the Hawks to 23.5 percent (12-for-51) as Oregon’s season came to a close in the Class 2A Somonauk Regional quarterfinals.
Caleb Mowry had 11 points and five rebounds for the Hawks (11-17), who trailed 33-15 by halftime. Kyle Remrey added 10 points, two assists and two steals, and Tim Smith had three points, five rebounds and three blocks.
Devin Haws had 13 points and two steals to lead Plano, while Northwestern football recruit Joe Jones added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Jose Martinez chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Reapers.
Sterling Christian 55, Rockford Fire 42: Adam Dettman had 22 points to lead the Trojans (20-7) to a road victory on Monday.
Also for Sterling Christian, David Vroman had 18 points and eight rebounds and Isaac Weber added 14 boards and eight points.
Men’s basketball
Kishwaukee 74, Sauk Valley 56: The Skyhawks shot just 32 percent form the field in an Arrowhead Conference loss in Malta.
Kishwaukee led from start to finish, pulling away down the stretch after Sauk (20-9, 7-4) had pulled to within eight. The Kougars shot 54 percent from the field and 53 precent from 3-point range, and made 14 of their 15 free throws.
Matt Ross scored a game-high 25 points for the Skyhawks. Stanley Moore added 10 points and five assists, and Ryne Vrana added seven points and 14 rebounds.
