TV show 'The Playboy Club' filming scene in Sycamore

SYCAMORE – A scene for the new NBC TV show "The Playboy Club" is being filmed today and Thursday at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore.

Lauren Kamm, a junior publicist with 20th Century Fox Television, said a courtroom scene is being shot in courtroom 300 involving some of the show's leads, including Eddie Cibrian, who plays attorney Nick Dalton. According to the NBC Universal Media Village website, the drama focuses on Chicago's Playboy Club in the 1960s and the people involved with it.

Set dressing and preparations began Tuesday at the courthouse, as workers brought in equipment necessary to begin filming. Filming will occur all day today and part of Thursday, Kamm said.

Since the show, which primarily has been filmed on sound stages in Chicago, is set in the early '60s, Kamm said location scouts were looking for places with architectural details such as those found in the county courthouse.

Richard Lederer, production manager for "The Playboy Club," called the county courthouse "gorgeous" and said DeKalb County officials have been extremely cooperative.

"It was a challenge to find a period proper courthouse," as well as one that was free during the week, Lederer said.

The county is being compensated financially for the use of the courthouse, though Lederer would not say what the amount is.

Courtroom 300 is typically where DeKalb County Presiding Judge Kurt Klein is in; he is out this week. Messages left with DeKalb County Circuit Clerk Maureen Josh for additional comment were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Because crew members traveled from Chicago and will work long hours, Lederer said, they will stay in local hotels. There are no plans to film at the courthouse again, he said, but it's possible, depending on what the scripts might call for.

The scene being filmed, part of the fourth episode of the series, will focus on a trial happening in a downtown Chicago courtroom involving attorney Nick Dalton, Lederer said.

The show premieres at 9 p.m. Monday on NBC.
