New 'Superman' to be filmed in Sugar Grove

SUGAR GROVE – The stars will be out in Sugar Grove next month, as scenes of Warner Brothers' new film, "Superman: Man of Steel," will be filmed there.

The new Superman movie stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Russell Crowe as his biological father Jor-El. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play his adoptive parents, and Amy Adams will play Lois Lane. The studio reports that the film will be released in June 2012.

The filming will affect traffic. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a shutdown of Route 56 from Route 47 to Galena Boulevard starting at 3 p.m. Aug. 7 until 8 p.m. Aug. 10.

Betsy Steinberg, managing director for the Illinois Film Office, said the movie will be filmed in other areas of the state, including in and around Plano, the western suburbs and Chicago, for several days in September.

"It's wonderful, and the best news of all – they're going to spend a lot of money in our state and employ a lot of locals," Steinberg said.

"Just to have a big project like this here is really good for economic development and great to have them,"  Steinberg said. "It's jobs – that's the most important thing to us."

Steinberg said she does not know what scenes will be filmed in Sugar Grove.

"I have not seen the script," Steinberg said.

Motorists will be re-routed during the filming while the roads are shut down.

Vehicles traveling east on Route 30 will exit onto Route 47, and then continue to Galena Boulevard to the Galena access ramp. Route 47 traffic will have to use the Galena access ramp to get onto Route 56.

Westbound traffic on Route 56 will have to exit onto Galena Boulevard to Route 47, then either stay on Route 47, or turn west onto Route 30.
