SYCAMORE – Two men arrested for reportedly beating another individual with a glass bottle in separate incidents made their initial appearances at the DeKalb County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Ian Picurro, 29, of the 1100 block of Jenny Lane in Sycamore, and Raheem Martin, 18, of the 300 block of Anne Street in Elgin, are charged with aggravated battery – a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Picurro is charged with two counts of aggravated battery.
Picurro was arrested Sunday after police found him hiding in the shower at his residence. Police had gone there after responding to a call from Kishwaukee Community Hospital, where a patient was given several stitches in the face after being struck multiple times with a bottle.
According to court documents, Picurro was at a party on Hagen Drive in DeKalb when he struck another man in the face with a beer bottle. The man fell to the ground, and Picurro got on top of him and continued to hit him in the face with the bottle, according to the documents.
Circuit Judge Robbin Stuckert set Picurro's bond at $10,000, and Picurro indicated he would be able to pay the $1,000 necessary to be released from jail. Stuckert denied his request for a public defender because he did not state his income.
Piccuro's next court date is set for June 27.
In a separate incident on May 21, at a party in the 800 block of Greenbrier in DeKalb, Martin reportedly broke a glass bottle on the head of a man whose girlfriend he had been dancing with.
According to court documents, the man stepped between Martin and the girl, and when the man began talking to his girlfriend, Martin struck him in the head with the bottle.
Prosecutor Julie Trevarthen of the DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office said Martin has a lengthy criminal history, which includes convictions for retail theft and burglary. She said his juvenile history includes three burglary charges, a residential burglary charge and two charges for criminal damage to property.
Stuckert set Martin's bond at $10,000, meaning he will have to post $1,000 to be released. A public defender was appointed to represent him. Martin's next court date is set for June 15.
