VA clinic in Peoria to open Monday

PEORIA (AP) – Veterans in central Illinois will soon have access to a new clinic that’s designed to offer more services and better care.

The Bob Michel VA Outpatient Clinic is scheduled to open Monday in Peoria, but with limited hours. Officials tell the (Peoria) Journal Star that it should be up to full speed by Wednesday.

The clinic will offer a variety of services to veterans, including treatment for traumatic brain injuries, optometry and podiatry. It will have 28 patient rooms, twice as many as at the old facility. Ground was broken on the $15 million project in November 2009.

Congressman Aaron Schock says it was a hard fight to get the clinic and he’s proud it will be available to serve Illinois’ veterans.
