ROCK FALLS – R. Neal Sutton, 71, of Rock Falls, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Genesis East Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 13, 1939, in Sylva, N.C., to Charles and Eunice Sutton.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Cami Sutton and her son, Joshua of Bokeelia, Fla., Piper (Rusty Turner) and their children, Tyler and Kelsey of Pecatonica, and Nicole and Kristian Cotta and their daughter, Quinn of Chandler, Ariz.; his brother, R.C. and Holly Sutton of Glendale, Ariz.; and sisters-in-law, Wanda Sutton, Shirley Jordan, and JoAnne Sutton.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Sutton, Ray Sutton, and Boyd Sutton; one sister, Vivian Carpenter; four nephews, Tim, Boyd, Randy, and Philip; and two nieces, Sheila and Elizabeth.

Neal began working at Teach and Hoffman, later to become Rock River Provision. He was a meat cutter for more than 50 years, working at Foodlane, Food Country, Logli’s, and County Market.

His favorite pastimes were feeding the animals that came around daily, building fireplaces, and stonework.

His greatest love was for his family, always taking the time to teach and listen while encouraging them to be the best at everything they did.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling, with Pastor Jason Borton of Harvest Time Bible Church officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
