As North Grove Elementary School in Sycamore opened last fall, a new school song was written and composed by elementary music teacher Kristine Mertens.

The “North Grove Hawks School Song” was premiered at an all-school assembly at which kindergarten through fifth-grade students performed the song for the school staff. It also was heard by audience members at the school’s Spring Sing.

Mertens was honored and excited for the opportunity to compose the new school song, according to a news release.

“I hope that I have written a song that students will want to sing for all of their elementary years,” she said in the release.

“North Grove Hawks School Song” is an encouraging, catchy and upbeat tune, according to the release, that incorporates many of the district’s core values. The chorus is: ”Caring, sharing and all the rest; Here at North Grove we try our best; To show with actions, not just with talk; ’Cause we are the Hawks!”
