OHIO – Margaret A. “Peg” Friel, 90, formerly of Ohio, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 10, 1919, in May Township, Lee County, the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Antoine) Burke.
She had been a lunch room supervisor for Ohio schools before her retirement in 2000. She had been a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ohio, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary societies at both churches.
She married Nathan B. Friel on Jan. 2, 1940, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown.
He preceded her in death on July 7, 1976.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Tony Friel; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; two brothers, Joseph and James Burke; sisters-in-law, Doris Burke and Mary Jean Burke; and daughter-in-law, Kay Friel.
She is survived by four sons, James (Pam) Friel of Chatham, Daniel (Beth) Friel of Waupaca, Wis., Phillip (Becky) Friel of Galesburg, and John (Becky) Friel of Ohio; three daughters, Mary Jean Friel of Long Beach, Calif., Liz (Mark) Schmitt of Anawan, and Theresa (Tom) Friel-Draper of Amboy; one daughter-in-law, Janice Friel of Columbia, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ellen Murray of Freeport, Regina Johnson, S.L. of Nerinx, Ky., and Betty (Bill) Widolff of Tampico; three brothers, Daniel (Vivian) Burke and Edward (Lu) Burke, both of Dixon, and Frank (Darlene) Burke of Mendota; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown.
Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, Maytown. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., Friday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, Amboy, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
