BATAVIA – Counselors are in place to help students and staff at Louise White Elementary School after the sudden death of first-grade student Jeffrey Nekolny.
The cause of the seven-year-old’s death is still unknown, said Batavia School Superintendent Jack Barshinger. Jeffrey died Saturday at his Aurora home.
"At this point, we know it is not contagious," Barshinger said. "We know it was not disease related."
Staff and students are dealing with Jeffrey's death as best they can, Barshinger said.
“It was quite a shock,” Barshinger said. “There was no way to prepare for it.”
Officials for the Kane County Coroner’s Office said they could not discuss the case because of the student’s age.
This is the second time in recent years students and staff at Louise White have had to deal with the unexpected death of a student. In July 2007, Luke Laudolff, 10, drowned in Lake Michigan while on vacation with his family.
A memorial visitation for Jeffrey will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Adolf Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd.,7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Harris Bank, 2853 Kirk Road, Aurora, in Jeffrey’s name to honor his school and favorite activities.
