OTTAWA – A Morris motorist was cited in the wake of a two-vehicle crash Saturday in Utica Township that resulted in the death of an area motorcycle rider.
Debbie A. Nicholson, 59, of Utica, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 6 and East 9th Road.
Douglas B. Erickson, 21, of 520 Lincoln St., Morris, was cited by La Salle County Sheriff's deputies with failure to yield while turning left. It was unknown Monday afternoon whether further charges are pending on Erickson.
Witnesses told deputies the crash occurred when Erickson's westbound Chrysler turned into the path of the motorcycle as the car attempted to turn left from U.S. 6 onto East 9th Road.
Both Erickson and the motorcycle driver, Robert J. Nicholson, 65, of Utica, were transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. Deputies did not have condition reports Monday nor know whether the drivers were still hospitalized.
Also during the incident, deputies arrested Reymundo Liendo, 51, of Ottawa, for disobeying a traffic control device and a police officer.
Deputies said Liendo drove around the deputy and squad car while they were handling traffic control at the scene of the fatal crash.
Liendo posted bond for his release on the citations.
