DeKalb loose-leaf collection:
7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, with vacuum trucks collecting leaves from Lincoln Highway and streets south of Route 38 this week, and streets north of Lincoln Highway on Oct. 26-30. Crews will alternate sections weekly through November, depending on weather conditions. Residents within the scheduled section should rake their leaves onto the parkway, directly behind the curb or gutter line, between the sidewalk and the street– not into the street,which might cause flooding by blocking the storm sewers. Leaves also can be placed in open garbage cans or yard waste bags for curbside collection on regularly scheduled garbage pickup days, or in landscape waste containers at specified locations. DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center Silent Auction: Bids open this morning and close at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 2600 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. The auction will raise funds for the Alzheimer's Unit special outing and family programs. Items available include a flat-screen HDTV, indoor grill, many restaurant gift certificates, a hand-made quilt, local business wares, pet products and other items. Bid sheets include contents of each basket and pictures of each item. All items will be displayed on the final day of the silent auction. The Alzheimer's unit, "Country View Square" at DCRNC, a 38-bed special-care neighborhood for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, is based on the social model of individualized person-centered care serving residents of DeKalb County, featuring a secure environment with an accessible garden maintained by the Master Gardeners of DeKalb County – with a new water feature and a gazebo, an indoor street walk, restaurant and family-style dining with meals available 24 hours a day, 12 hours of activity programming daily, 24-hour nursing care, family support group, resident and family outing programs and party programs.

MOPS of DeKalb: Mothers of Preschoolers meets from 8:45-11 a.m. every other Monday, September to May, at First Lutheran Church of DeKalb, 324  N. Fair City Quilters:

Audubon Horicon Marsh and Boat Trip:

Participants will bird watch from the dike roads and then go on a guided boat trip of the marsh at 3 p.m. Some members will stay overnight, but others may return Saturday night. 4-C courses: Community Coordinated Child Care is offering two workshops for child care center staff and family child care providers at its office, 155 N. Third St., Suite 300, in DeKalb.
•"Getting Ready for the Business Administration Scale": 9 a.m.-noon Saturday; 4-C membership not required. A statewide nonrefundable fee of $15 is required for registration for this workshop. Designed for family child care providers, this session provides an overview of the BAS, which is designed to assess the quality of management practices in the family child care setting. After completing this training, providers will have a basic knowledge of the BAS, be able to use the tool for self-assessment and be aware of the linkages to the Illinois Department of Human Services Quality Rating System.
