DIXON – The Dukes and Duchesses have a new emblem on which to hang their crowns.
The Dixon Pride Team, composed of high school teachers, administrators, students and parents, recently held a logo-designing contest. Some people thought the school’s old symbol – a top hat and shield – needed to be updated, said Bruce Luther, a committee member and teacher.
Honors went to senior David Cichosz, a native of Poland, who sketched the design in art class last semester. He incorporated two crowns – one for the Dukes and one for the Duchesses – because, he said, he wanted to represent the entire student body, both boys and girls.
His logo was selected from about 30 entries, along with three other finalists, and placed on the school’s Web site, www.dixonschools.org, where parents, students and faculty members could vote.
Cichosz’s artwork was recognized at a pep assembly Friday.
“I was really happy about it,” Cichosz said. “It was fun – definitely something I’ve wanted.”
Luther said the old logo will be phased out gradually and replaced with Cichosz’s. T-shirts, letterhead and school murals all eventually will bear his design.
Still, Cichosz hasn’t let it go to his head.
“I wouldn’t call myself an artist,” he said. “I’m not really good at it; it’s just a fun thing.”
The newly formed Pride Team, whose members strive to promote school spirit and to create a more positive environment at the high school, is still looking for members, Luther said.
