The softball fields remain in good shape for a youth baseball program that will start this weekend, said Brad Staab, executive director for the park district.
“Luckily, there was no substantial damage to any of the fields,” Staab said.
The softball complex was converted to field turf during the off-season as the major component of a $1.4 million upgrade that is being financed through a lease agreement with Redbirds Baseball Inc.
It’s the Redbirds programs that starts this weekend.
“That’s why were nervous about it,” Staab said.
The vehicle did leave tire marks but the ground was hard enough that there were no ruts.
“You could see that a car had gone through it, but it didn’t really damage the field,” Staab said.
