Woman dies after she was struck by vehicle in Joliet

Joliet — A 55-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a vehicle on West Jefferson Street near Hammes Avenue, according to Joliet police.

Officers with the Joliet police traffic division investigated the fatal car crash that occurred about 6:52 a.m. Thursday, according to a Joliet police news release. Officers responded to the scene and found a woman in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle and the driver remained on scene, police said.

“The female victim was transported to (AMITA Health Saint) Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries,” police said.

A preliminary investigation of the incident revealed the woman was in the roadway on Jefferson Street, west of Hammes Avenue, and she was struck by a vehicle that traveled in the westbound direction of Jefferson Street from Hammes Avenue, police said.

Paramedics with the Joliet Fire Department also responded to the scene and discovered the woman had no pulse and she was not breathing, according to Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.

Bystanders were performing CPR on her, Blaskey said.

Paramedics provided rapid treatment of the woman’s injuries and took her to the hospital, he said.
