Will County’s COVID-19 transmission remains low, CDC says

New cases, hospitalizations have remained low for the past month, data show

The level of COVID-19 transmission has remained low over the past month in Will County, according to the latest public health data.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed the level of COVID-19 in Will County at “low” this week.

Will County’s COVID-19 test positivity rate was about 2% as of March 28, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health, about the level it’s been for the past month.

The number of COVID-19 hospital patients in the South Suburban region, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, has remained low over the past month as well.

Demand for COVID-19 vaccinations also has slowed, as little more than 300 shots are being administered in Will County a day, according to the IDPH.

About 65.8% of Will County’s nearly 700,000 residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 71.8% have received at least one dose. More than 229,000 booster shots have been administered in the county.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently authorized an additional booster shot for individuals age 50 and older.

The Will County Health Department announced it would reduce the hours for its Joliet COVID-19 vaccine clinic in April.
