A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 55 in Romeoville early Sunday.

The accident happened at about 12:39 a.m. near Weber Road, state police said.

It led to a second crash involving three vehicles but not leading to any injuries.

Souithbound lanes, however, were closed until 5:05 a.m.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there.

State police said no additional information was available as of 8:30 a.m., but the accident is under investigation.
