Lena-Winslow 8, Newman 4: The Panthers (5-0) handed the Comets (5-1) their first loss of the season after scoring six times in the sixth inning. Newman had six errors in the home setback as L-W scored five unearned runs. Garet Wolfe homered for Newman. Michael Morse pitched four innings with nine strikeouts and two runs allowed. Evan Bushman pitched three innings with eight hits and five unearned runs allowed.
Rock Island 5, Sterling 4: The Rocks edged Sterling by one run for the second time in three days. Cale Nettleton led the Golden Warriors (3-5, 0-2 Western Big 6) with two hits and two RBIs. Eli Penne pitched six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) with four strikeouts and six walks.
Forreston 8, Turner 6 (9 inn.): Forreston scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but Turner scored twice in the bottom half to force extras. Cadan Hoffman drew a walk with the bases loaded and Brady Gill scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth. Connor Politsch pitched the last three innings to get the win. Polistch and Mickey Probst each had two RBIs in the win. Kendall Erdmann pitched six innings, scored three runs and had two hits for the Cardinals.
Eastland 18, Ravenna 1 (5 inn.): The Cougars scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and collected 17 hits in the road win. Dorian Meyers led the Cougars with three hits and four RBIs. Cavin Heckman pitched a four-hitter.
Softball
Ottawa 4, Sterling 2: Ottawa scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and Sterling brought the tying run to the plate before falling short. Sterling had four errors as all four runs came unearned against Layla Wright in her complete game effort. Breanna Taylor led Sterling with two hits. Lily Martinez and Haley Janssen each had RBIs.
Girls track & field
Fulton wins Rosenberry Classic: The Steamers tallied 88.5 points to win the 12-team invite at the Westwood Fitness and Sports Center. Riverdale (74) was second, followed by E-P (52), Bureau Valley (52) and Princeton (46). Amboy was seventh, Newman was eighth and Morrison 11th.
Fulton’s Jessa Read, Brooklyn Thoms, Paige Cramer and Haley Smither won the 4x200. Peighton Stretton, Kerby Germann, Read and Thoms won the 4x400. Smither won the triple jump.
Newman’s Elaina Allen won the 60-meter dash, 200 and took third in the 400.
E-P’s Rozlyn Mosher, Jennica Norman, Jessie DeNeve and Sarah Link won the 4x800.
