Pearl City’s Ben Bremmer receives FFA awards

PEARL CITY — Ben Bremmer, a member of the Pearl City FFA Chapter of the Illinois Association FFA, has been selected as the District FFA Star in Agricultural Placement.

Illinois FFA recognizes four outstanding FFA members in each of five FFA Districts in Illinois. Each is honored as the District Star Award for outstanding accomplishments in FFA and Agricultural Education.

The District Star Awards – including the Star Farmer, Star in Agribusiness, Star in Agricultural Placement and Star in Agriscience recognizes FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement.

Supervised Agricultural Experiences, referred to as SAEs, allow students to learn by doing by either owning and operating an agricultural business, working or serving an internship at an agriculture-based business, or conducting an agriculture-based scientific experiment and reporting results.

Bremmer was also selected as the District FFA Proficiency Winner in Diversified Ag Production. Illinois FFA recognizes students in forty seven different areas based on their work-based learning, also known as their SAE. FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through record keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement may be considered for this award.

Bremmer was selected as the District 1 Winner for District Star in Agricultural Placement and in the area of Diversified Ag Production by a committee of agricultural industry representatives and teachers knowledgeable in this work-based area.

Bremmer is now eligible to compete in the State FFA Awards Selection process in Decatur on Saturday, March 26. He was previously chosen as the Chapter and Section awardee for Star in Agricultural Placement and the Proficiency Area of Diversified Ag Production.

He has been involved in the following other Agricultural Education and FFA activities: Pearl City FFA Chapter President, Section 1 FFA Vice President, Dairy Cattle Judging, Soil Judging, Dairy Quiz Bowl, District Star Conference Attendee, Leadership Training School Facilitator, Greenhand Workshop Facilitator, amongst other events. Kristen Gallagher is the Agricultural Science Teacher and FFA Advisor at Pearl City Jr/Sr High School.

Bremmer will receive plaques for his accomplishments. These plaques are made possible by gifts by individuals, businesses, corporations and organizations through the Illinois Foundation FFA.

He is the son of Chad and Deb Bremmer of Pearl City.
