Coroner identifies Lake in the Hills man, 31, killed in Wednesday crash

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, in the 1100 block of West Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District deputy chief said.

A 31-year-old man was killed in a car crash Wednesday evening in Lake in the Hills, the McHenry County coroner said Friday.

Jordan Bergmann of Lake in the Hills died of blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Coroner Michael Rein said Friday after an autopsy earlier in the day.

A toxicology report is pending, but that could take a while to get back, as the laboratory that processes them is backed up because of a COVID-19 outbreak, Rein said.

The coroner’s office is working with the Lake in the Hills Police Department, which is investigating the cause of the crash, the agencies said.

The police department and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of West Algonquin Road near Pyott Road, where they found a pickup truck rolled over, officials said Thursday.

The vehicle, a black Toyota Tacoma, was driving west when it lost control, struck a guardrail and flipped over, landing on its roof, police said in a news release Thursday. No other vehicles were involved, and only the driver – now identified as Bergmann – was in the pickup.

The crash remained under investigation Friday afternoon, Lake in the Hills Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Eccles said in an email.
