Police charge Crystal Lake man with trying to meet child for sex

Crystal Lake police arrested Evan Colie on Saturday in connection with a pair of Aug. 24 allegations

A 24-year-old Crystal Lake man is accused of trying to arrange a meeting with a child whom he allegedly asked for sexually explicit photos.

Evan Colie, of the 400 block of Lake Street, is charged with grooming and solicitation to meet a child. Both charges are punishable by as many as four years in prison.

Crystal Lake police arrested Colie on Saturday in connection with a pair of Aug. 24 allegations. Collie is accused in a two-count criminal complaint of seeking sexual images from a child and taking steps to meet the child.

Reached by email Tuesday, the Crystal Lake Police Department declined to comment on the case because it involves a child as the alleged victim.

Colie is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday with an attorney from the McHenry County Public Defender’s Office.

He was released Monday from the McHenry County Jail after posting bail.
