COVID-19 testing now available at McHenry vaccination site

People head inside for a COVID-19 vaccination clinic through the McHenry County Department of Health at 1900 N. Richmond Road, the site of a former Kmart, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in McHenry. Vaccinations are made by appointment only.

COVID-19 testing is now available at the mass vaccination site located in the former Kmart in McHenry, the McHenry County Department of Health said Tuesday.

The county health department handed off operations of the vaccination site, located at 1900 N. Richmond Road in McHenry, to Curative, a private COVID-19 health care provider in early June.

Curative will now also offer antigen and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in addition to vaccinations at the location, according to a news release. Test results, which will be provided by text and email, take about 15 minutes for an antigen test or 24 to 48 hours for a PCR test.

“Along with vaccination, testing plays a key role in helping reduce the spread of COVID in our county,” McHenry County Public Health Nursing Director Susan Karras said in a statement. “By identifying individuals who are infected, testing prevents further person-to-person transmission. If you test positive, please isolate yourself from others and answer the call from the MCDH contact tracer.”

Appointments can be made at Curative.com. Health insurance information should be brought with, but the uninsured will not be turned away, according to the release.
