Areas of freezing fog making way across northern Illinois

Shallow, dense and freezing fog developed across a large area of northeastern Illinois Friday morning.

Dense, freezing fog has spread across portions of northern Illinois Friday morning.

With temperatures below freezing, a few slick spots can’t be ruled out on roadways, the National Weather Service said.

Drivers should be prepared for for sudden changes in visibility and sharply reduced visibility especially for those traveling west and south of Chicago, the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the 60s later in the day.
