Small engine repair shop closes in Peru
Jimmie’s Motor Rebuilding, 3350 Becker Drive, Peru, closed March 31, upon the owner’s retirement.
The small engine repair shop, which specialized in automotive, air cooled and light truck engines, was opened by Jimmie DeMattia 80 years ago. Donald E. Klein went to work for him in 1957. He bought the business from DeMattia in 1976 and his son, Don, joined him in the shop. He retired in 1993 and his son has owned the business since.
When asked what he would miss, Klein responded “everything.”
“I’m going to miss it, but it’s time.” he told the NewsTribune.
He thanked his loyal customers for their business over the years.
