Ottawa commits to Stevenson Road project, hopes to receive another grant

Project will cost $4.5-5 million

Ottawa City Hall

The Ottawa City Council committed to a $4.5 to $5 million Stevenson Road project that’s been years in the making.

Mayor Dan Aussem said the motion of commitment is meant to show the city has its ducks in a row even though the project hasn’t started. The city has already received a $2 million grant and is in hopes of receiving a second one to cover costs.

“It’s been on the books for a long time,” Aussem said. “There’s a lot of traffic up that way.”

Stevenson Road is on the north side of Ottawa near the Petsmart Distribution Center and sees heavy semi traffic on a regular basis.

Aussem said he’s hoping construction can start during the next construction season but nothing is set in stone. A more concrete date will be available once the status of the second grant the city applied for is known.
