I&M Canal trail will close within Channahon State Park

Project will be completed in late 2021 or early 2022

The Illinois and Michigan Canal trail between Lock 6 and Lock 7 will be closed within Channahon State Park beginning June 21 as work begins on a rehabilitation and improvement project at the DuPage River Spillway at the park. The trail will be closed in the spillway project work area through the completion of the project.

The project, managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board, will include adding an additional bay to the spillway/dam, repairs to the feeder gate, raising of the saddle dam, removal of trees from the levee and saddle dam, and planting of new trees at the site.

The long-needed spillway improvement project is a result of investments in Illinois infrastructure and revitalizing local economies.

It is expected the project will be completed in late 2021 or early 2022, and the I&M Canal trail at that location will be reopened at that time.
