A former West Chicago man was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison for a drunk driving crash that injured a pregnant woman.

Steven Gayden, 31, must serve at least 85% of the sentence before being eligible for parole, and was given credit for the 2½ years he has been in custody, according to DuPage County court records.

Gayden pleaded guilty in December to aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Aug. 23, 2023, Glen Ellyn police investigated a crash at Roosevelt Road and Parkside Avenue. They found Gayden standing outside his burning car. The victim, who was 4 months pregnant, was still in her vehicle. Gayden had crashed into her as she was turning out of a grocery store parking lot.

The woman suffered a broken breastbone, pelvis and ankle, according to court records.
