DuPage County reports 222 COVID-19 cases Tuesday, 5 deaths, region’s positivity decreases to 7.5%

The DuPage County Health Department on Tuesday reported 222 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 5 deaths: 1 man in his 60s, 1 woman in her 70s, 2 men in their 80s and 1 man in his 90s.

The county now has seen a total of 67,632 coronavirus cases including 1,090 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Jan. 12 was 98.0%.

DuPage County has administered 56,661 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 15,368 people, or 1.65% of the population, have been fully vaccinated.

IDPH also announced Regions 8 (Kane/DuPage counties) and Region 9 (Lake/McHenry counties) had advanced to Tier 1 of the state’s coronavirus mitigations plan, opening up indoor dining in both regions.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen zero days below the 6.5% threshold to advance to Phase 4. The region’s positivity rate increased to 7.5%. Currently, 30% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 44 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average increased to 8.3%, and DuPage County’s increased to 7.0%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable seven out of the past 10 days in this region.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,667 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 87 additional deaths Tuesday, and a total of 719,995 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,637 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,575, Lombard 3,524, Villa Park 2,111, Hinsdale 1,087, Westmont 1,710, Darien 1,396, Woodridge 2,116, Downers Grove 3,202, Elmhurst 3,487, Warrenville 1,082 and Winfield 870. Addison has had 4,172 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,712, Carol Stream 3,662 and West Chicago 3,741.
