DuPage County reports 460 COVID-19 cases Tuesday, 5 deaths, region’s positivity rate drops to 8.6%

The DuPage County Health Department on Tuesday reported 460 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 5 deaths: 1 man in his 60s, 2 men in their 90s and 2 women in their 100s.

The county now has seen a total of 58,608 coronavirus cases including 933 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Dec. 22 was 97.7%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 8.6%. Currently, 24.5% of medical/surgical beds are available and 33.7% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and four consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 10.4%, and DuPage County is at 7.8%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 110 available, staffed ICU beds out of 324 total and 357 ventilators available out of 578.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 5,644 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 106 additional deaths Tuesday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 7.2% to 7.4%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,116 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,195, Lombard 3,011, Villa Park 1,829, Hinsdale 895, Westmont 1,458, Darien 1,169, Woodridge 1,827, Downers Grove 2,647, Elmhurst 3,006, Warrenville 929 and Winfield 753. Addison has had 3,720 confirmed cases, Naperville 4,995, Carol Stream 3,185 and West Chicago 3,274.
