Rivett Golf Scholarship recipients announced

Holden Flynn, A.J. Steigler each receive $1,000

The 22nd annual Matt Rivett Memorial Golf Outing was held June 19 at Dwight Country Club. All proceeds from the event go to educational scholarships based on character and leadership. The recipient must be a Seneca High School senior and member of the Seneca High School golf team.

This year’s recipients are Holden Flynn and A.J. Steigler. They were presented with checks for $1,000 each by Fran Rivett, mother of Matt Rivett, and Russ Battersby, a former Fighting Irish golf coach and Rivett Memorial Golf Outing organizer. Flynn will attend Joliet Junior College, and Stiegler will attend Illinois Valley Community College.

The scholarship is named after Matt Rivett. He was a Seneca High School sophomore golfer who died in a car accident in 1999. Over the past 22 years, the fund has awarded more than $40,000 in educational funds.

“We could not have been as successful without our generous hole sponsor and staff support,” Battersby said. “Everyone seems to look forward to the outing every year. The scholarship goes to a worthy cause and keeps Matt’s wonderful memory alive.”
