Morris boys soccer hosts alumni game

33 former players show up to take on varsity team

MORRIS – A total of 33 former Morris boys soccer players showed up Friday night to take on the current varsity team in the annual Alumni Game.

The alumni got a hat trick from 2021 graduate Damian Becerra to help score a 7-2 win over this year’s Redskins.

The varsity got things started with a goal from Ben Salzman off an assist from Adan Mondragon, but the alumni answered with a goal from 2015 graduate Ricardo Del Toro, assisted by 2020 grad Luke Poston. Becerra then scored two straight goals, one with an assist from 2015 grad Kyle Schroeder and one with an assist from Poston as the alumni grabbed a 3-1 halftime lead.

The varsity closed the gap with an unassisted goal from sophomore Ryker Anderson. The alumni’s Del Toro then scored with an assist from 2015 grad Jorge Gutierrez before 2019 grad Yoochan Lee scored unassisted. Becerra then scored his third goal, with an assist from 2018 graduate Conner Shaw. Shaw capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from 2017 graduate Matt Samolis.
