MORRIS- The Morris City Council approved licensing for two new businesses Monday night.
Jonathon Serna will operate Serna Insurance Services, an insurance agency at 1802 N. Division St. Sunbelt Rentals will operate a heavy equipment rental business at 320 Briscoe Drive.
Mayor Chris Brown said the Morris Retail Association is hosting “Shop Lucky, Shop Morris” this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Make sure to come and join our local retail business to shop,” Brown said. “As mentioned previously the first annual St. Patricks Day parade will be stepping off at 3 p.m., in the 300 Block of West Washington Street, continuing down Liberty Street to Depot Street.”
Parking will be allowed on the street, just as it is with the annual lighted holiday parade, according to Public Information Officer Stan Knudson.
“The participating Morris Retail Association shops will have scratch-off cards to collect with every purchase. Each shop has one winner,” according to a post on the Morris Retail Association Facebook page. “The shops will also have great discounts and some beautiful Spring inventory to shop.”
Brown also asked that the council adopt an ordinance approving and authorizing an easement agreement for the ongoing Airport Road project near P&G.
“We have been waiting to get this easement for our stormwater drainage, so we are able to build Airport Road built out there. This is the approval that we need to be able to get things done for that,” Brown said.
Brown acknowledged that he would normally take such an ordinance to committee, but as it was time sensitive he brought it to council.
The motion passed 8-0.
