Morris auctioneer featured on album for British punk rock band

The lead singer of Pet Needs balances the microphone stand on his fingertips during their set at fForest Fest 2025 on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Morris auctioneer Erik Olson has made his musical debut as a voice on British punk rock band PET NEEDS’s new album, “Elbows Out! This is Capitalism!”

Even though they’re from the United Kingdom, punk rock band PET NEEDS has connections to Morris through their performance at fForest Fest in 2025.

Olson, who runs Lucky Auctioneering and also co-owns True North with his wife, Stacey, said they’ve been following PET NEEDS for years.

“Late last summer, we went out to Des Moines, of all places, and had a few drinks with them afterward,” Olson said. “We’re talking to these guys, and they tell us they’re working on a new album. They asked what I did for a living, and when I said I was an auctioneer, their eyes lit up.”

From there, the band shared their idea for an album that tells the story of them purchasing a secondhand punk rock career at auction. They had Erik audition for the part right there at the dinner table, with Stacey holding up a bottle of mustard for him to pretend to be auctioning off.

Erik’s voice is the first thing heard on the album, and he’s not the only featured guests: CJ Ramone, from legendary punk rock band The Ramones, shows up on the track “Some Advice.”

The album released last Friday, and Erik said the band is shooting for it to be their first top 10 album ever. It’s their fourth album, and their last topped out at number 17 on the charts in the United Kingdom.

“They’re an independent band, not on a big deal with RCA or Sony or any of those guys,” Erik said. “They’ve done this themselves. It’s grassroots, and it’s fan-based. It’s really cool.”

Erik will be traveling to London this fall to perform his auctioneering to open up a show for the band.
