Sandwich’s Sunny Weber advances to 1,600 finals at IHSA state track: Friday’s Record Newspapers sports roundup

Sandwich’s Sundara Weber wins the 3200 meter run Friday, May 15, 2026, during the Class 2A girls track sectional at Genoa-Kingston High School.

IHSA state meet

Sandwich senior Sunny Weber, the defending state champion in the Class 2A 1,600-meter run, advanced to Saturday’s finals by running the eighth-fastest preliminary time of 5:07.70. Weber is also scheduled to run the 3,200 in Saturday’s finals.

Softball

Yorkville 12, Wheaton Warrenville South 9

In a wild Class 4A Waubonsie Valley Regional final, the top-seeded Foxes jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning, saw WW South tie it 8-8 in the top of the fourth, then went back ahead with four in the bottom half.

Alyssa Muhlbach was 2 for 3 with a homer, double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Brooke Ekwinski was 2 for 3 with a run scored and RBI, Liv Lathen was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and Austyn Strike 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI for Yorkville (28-9).

Girls Soccer

Naperville Central 8, Yorkville 0

The Foxes lost the Class 3A Naperville Central Regional final.

Boys Volleyball

Oswego d. Minooka 22-25, 25-21, 25-19

The Panthers won the Oswego Regional quarterfinal.

Yorkville d. Naperville North 25-20, 27-25

Dylan Frieders had six kills and seven digs, Danny Knoll six kills and six digs and Tommy Matson three kills and three blocks for the Foxes (19-15) in the Yorkville Regional quarterfinal.

Baseball

Sandwich 7, Reed-Custer 4

Cash White singled in the go-ahead run to snap a 4-4 tie and Anthony Wade added a two-run triple in a three-run fifth, and the Indians went on to win the nonconference game in Sandwich.

Chase Clark was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Arlo Budd struck out five in the complete game for Sandwich (19-14-1).

Mendota 10, Plano 2

The visiting Trojans scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to blow open the nonconference game. Justin Bishop was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Plano (14-19-1).

Dixon 6, Yorkville Christian 4

Isaac McCoy was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Austin Vugteveen had a double and run scored for the Mustangs (13-9-1).
