The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce is pushing back its Charlemagne Awards gala to June in hopes the COVID-19 situation will improve enough that the event can be held live.
The awards ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on Friday at the Q Center in St. Charles. The 99th annual Charlemagne Awards gala is now set to take place June 18 at the Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago.
The COVID-19 situation continues to improve for Kane County. The region comprised of Kane and DuPage counties recently moved to Tier 1 as part of the state’s resurgence mitigations.
Under Tier 1, meetings, social events and gatherings are limited to the lesser of 25 guests or 25% of overall room capacity, both indoors and outdoors.
The Charlemagne Award honors the lifetime achievement for an individual who has dedicated their time, efforts, and talent to making the community the great place it is today and demonstrates the very essence behind the Legend of Charlemagne written by C.V. Amenoff, who served as mayor of St. Charles from 1969-1973. The legend reveals that Charlemagne left his four sons as guardians of St. Charles, to see that this city becomes a community where people could live, raise a family, work, have a business, be educated, worship and play.
The prestigious award was created in 1968. Last year, lifelong St. Charles resident Bob Gorecki received the award.
During the June 18 event, the Charlemagne Award will be presented along with the L.E.A.P. – Leadership-Excellence-Achievement-Professionalism award. On Friday, the Chamber will announce the community development, community image and civic image awards.
Those awards will be presented during the June 18 event.
