Streator council discusses next step in bridge project following $1M federal award

Preliminary engineering agreement for Park and Bilger bridges moves to vote

Streator City Engineer Jeremy Palm discusses preliminary engineering plans for the Park and Bilger Street bridge project during a Committee of the Whole meeting as the Streator City Council reviewed a proposed agreement.

Streator is beginning the process of replacing both the Park and Bilger Street bridges after securing $1 million in federal funding through the office of Darin LaHood.

During Streator City Council’s meeting on Wednesday night, City Engineer Jeremy Palm said the funding has already been awarded and routed through the state, allowing the city to begin the next phase of the project.

During the next council meeting, council members are expected to vote on a $99.7K agreement with Hutchison Engineering Inc. to cover the first phase engineering, including surveys and preliminary design work.

According to city officials, the project has been part of the city’s long-term planning and was included in its five-year roadmap discussed last fall.

If everything goes according to plan, Palm said construction could start around late 2027.
