The Mendota Historical Society will be welcoming author Denise Moran to give a talk about her recently published book, “Dr. Letitia Westgate: Medical Pioneer”, according to a press release.

The discussion is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at the historical society’s program space at 907 Washington Street.

“We want visitors to get more of an understanding of the history of medicine and hospitals,” Administrative Assistant at the Mendota Historical Society Cory Lauer said. “The talk should give people a better idea of women’s history.”

The book explores the life of Dr. Westgate who was the first female physician to build and manage a hospital in the United States, according to the release.

Registration is $10 and can be found on the Mendota Historical Society website.
