Fort du Rocher Chapter of DAR essay contest winners

The Fort du Rocher Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on March 14 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mendota to recognize the winners of the annual DAR essay contest with a potluck breakfast for them and their parents.

The winners of the contest were Bailey Miller from Earlville, Kiley Mason from Leland, Clair Boudreau from La Salle-Peru, and Aden Tillman from Mendota, whose essay was sent on to the next level of the contest, according to a press release.

The next meeting will be at 10 am on Saturday, April 11, at the Zion United Methodist Church in Mendota.

Regent Beverly Richardson presided over the meeting and presented the winners with their Good Citizens awards.

The program will be “History of Woodworking”.

Small personal items and gently used purses will be collected for the Freedom House.

Other upcoming events for the Fort du Rocher Chapter of DAR include the state conference April 23-26, an America 250 open house on July 8 at the Graves-Hume Public Library where suggestions will be made regarding the Sweet Corn Festival, a DAR mini tour on June 4 at the Mendota Civic Center and a sponsored bingo event at the Veterans’ Home, according to the release.

Membership in the DAR is open to any woman over 18 years of age whose lineage traces back to a Revolutionary War patriot.

The organization focuses on education, patriotism, and historic preservation, according to the release.
