An accident involving a tractor-trailer shut down all lanes for about 90 minutes on Route 251 at the U.S. 6 overpass in Peru.
First responders were dispatched to the scene about 9:53 a.m. Monday. According to a Peru police report, several callers reported a semi carrying a load had struck the overpass headed northbound.
“The Peru Police Department responded along with the Peru Fire Department and saw that a semi that was too tall and large to fit under the overpass had struck the overpass and was stuck under the overpass,” the department said in a press release.
A truck enforcement officer from the Illinois State Police was called and responded to the scene, as well, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The truck inspector for ISP charged the driver, Hector Hernandez Jasso, 66, of San Antonio Texas, with multiple violations including over height, over width, and violation of the permit which was voided upon leaving the route.
