Fire damages house under renovation in Jonesville

No one was living in the house at the time of fire

Firefighters responded Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, to flames visible from the window of a house in the process of renovation in Jonesville.

A house in the process of being renovated in Jonesville, between Oglesby and La Salle, had extensive smoke, water and fire damage Thursday night, the Oglesby fire chief said.

Fire Chief Ron Popurella said firefighters from Oglesby, La Salle, Peru, Tonica and Utica responded after a call came in at 6:32 p.m. Thursday for a fire at 490 Route 351.

Popurella said there were flames coming from a side window and visible inside the residence, as well as extensive smoke coming from the house.

No one was living in the house at the time. There were no injuries.

Route 351 was closed for a couple of hours between Jonesville and Oglesby as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
