Jared Devine's two goals were more than enough for Herscher and the Tigers continued to roll through the Columbus Cup with a 3-0 win over Beecher on Wednesday in Manteno.
The Tigers (16-4) scored all their goals in the first half Devine's pair of scores and another goal by Mitchell Schwarzkopf. The team smothered Beecher in the second half to preserve its advantage.
Herscher takes on Thornton Fractional North today.
In other Columbus Cup action, Chase Larkins scored two goals and assisted on another in Manteno's 5-0 win over Oak Forest.
However Panther coach Jake Emerson was not completely satisfied with the effort.
"We didn't pass or possess the ball too well, played a little sloppy, but we were able to finish" Emerson said. Austin Miller saved the only two shots he faced for Manteno (12-6-1), which plays Westmont tonight.
Wilmington came up short at the Columbus Cup Wednesday. The Wildcats lost 5-0 to Thornton Fractional North.
<strong>Peotone 0, Lincoln-Way West 0</strong>
Peotone was able to hang tough on the road and held Lincoln-Way West to a draw.
"It's fun to play bigger schools and see how we measure up," said Peotone coach Kevin Mikuce, who was pleased with the effort.
Jeremy Lensing stopped eight shots for the Blue Devils (16-4-2), who state state tournament play against the winner of Illinois Lutheran and Luther East on Tuesday.
<strong>Bishop McNamara 5, Grant Park 3</strong>
Zach St. Aubin scored two goals for Bishop McNamara to help spoil Grant Park's Senior Night.
The Fightin' Irish took a 4-2 lead into halftime in a match where both teams were able to easily convert scoring chances. McNamara goalkeeper Kyle Hendrix and his Grant Park counterpart Erik Neidlinger combined for only five saves on the night.
Things stayed level after the half. A goal from Bishop McNamara's James Martin cancelled out the second goal of the evening by Grant Park's Michael Tiemens.
