Russell Siela -- Gilman
Visitation for Russell K. Siela, 91, of Gilman, will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Rev. Connie Williams Moodie will officiate.
Burial, with military rites by the Gilman American Legion Post 499, will be in Gilman Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gilman American Legion Post 499. He died Friday (Nov. 2, 2007) at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
Mr. Siela retired from farming at the age of 65. He was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Rantoul, the son of Andrew and Emma Russell Siela. He spent his childhood in Rantoul, Indiana and Gibson City. His wife, the former Loretta Saathoff, whom he married Sept. 15, 1947, in Chicago, died June 6, 2006. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, serving in the 10th Mountain Division. He moved to LaHogue in 1946. He and his wife moved to Gilman in 1975. He enjoyed farming, dancing (especially square dancing), watching western movies, playing cards, traveling and visiting.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Margaret Siela; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are six sisters, Francis (in childhood), Edith, Opal, Marguerite, Dorothy and Eloise; and one brother, Harold.
