Crashes in Sheldon send four to hospital

Two separate two-vehicle crashes occurring simultaneously on Monday near the intersection of U.S. Routes 52 and 24 at Sheldon sent four people to the hospital.

According to Illinois State Police, the accidents happened at 10:45 a.m.

A 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Janice M. Cook-Herreweyers, of Sheldon, was heading north on U.S. 52 at 2960E Road.

A 2010 GMC Yukon driven by a 50-year-old resident of Olathe, Kan., was east on U.S. 24.

Cook-Herreweyers failed to yield the right of way, proceeding through the intersection with U.S. 24 and into the path of the Yukon.

Cook-Herreweyers was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was cited for failure to yield right of way and no valid insurance.

No one else was injured including three passengers in the Yukon.

The other crash occurred when a 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by Jack L. Tedford, 81, of Momence, was north on North Fourth Street and attempted to cross U.S. 24 to proceed northbound on U.S. 52.

Tedford failed to yield and crashed into another vehicle.

All three people involved in that crash were taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

Tedford was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
