Klawitter sisters power Peotone softball, Gianni Jaime leads Herscher soccer: Thursday’s Daily Journal roundup

Peotone 6, Prairie Central 2: At Fairbury, Sophie Klawitter allowed two unearned runs on three hits with 15 strikeouts and two walks in a shutout performance, while also adding a hit and two runs. Mary Klawitter was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Ava Kosmos singled twice, walked twice and scored. Jillian Roark was 1 for 5 with an RBI and a run.

WJOL Classic

Joliet West 14, Coal City 3 (5 inn.): A 12-run second from Joliet West was enough to down the Coalers (5-6) Thursday. Khloe Picard had a 2 for 2 day with a double, while Kenslee Baldauf was 2 for 2 and scored. Ava Mills allowed an earned run on four hits and a strikeout in 2⅓ relief innings.

Girls soccer

Herscher 7, Reed-Custer 0: At Braidwood, the Tigers (6-0, 1-0 Illinois Central Eight) opened the conference season with their fifth win by five or more goals on the young season. Gianni Jaime had a hat trick and an assist. Sophie Venckauskas had a pair of goals, while Leia Haubner and Danica Woods each scored a goal, Woods adding an assist. Gianna High had a pair of helpers and Laney Mohler had one. Addie Wilkins had three saves.

The Comets fell to 0-3, 0-1.

Boys volleyball

Evergreen Park d. Bradley-Bourbonnais 25-13, 25-14: At Evergreen Park, no individual stats were available for the Boilermakers (1-7).
