DeKalb-Sycamore Co-op won all of the individual competitions with seniors taking top honors in five of the events and two of the three relays to win the meet with Metea Valley, 106-50.

The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op boys swimming team hosted Metea Valley Thursday night at Huntley Middle School in DeKalb.

After failing to medal last season at the state tournament in the 100-yard freestyle, Jacob Gramer decided to branch out. The DeKalb-Sycamore senior decided to pick up the butterfly. And he ended this season picking up a state championship.

Two state trips, no medals. Jacob Gramer stopped that streak in the biggest way possible. The DeKalb-Sycamore swimmer won the state championship in the 100-yard butterfly on Saturday at IHSA State Championships in Westmont. He also took fifth in the 100 freestyle.

Swimmer of the year Jacob Gramer had a season that included two individual berths to state, a spot on a state-bound relay, and some school history at the Rockford Jefferson Sectional.

As the season went on, the records kept falling for both Jacob Gramer and the DeKalb-Sycamore freestyle relay teams. Gramer set two individual school records, was a part of multiple record-breaking relays and won two medals at state, earning Swimmer of the Year honors.

Barrington senior and USC commit Griffin O’Leary won the 100 backstroke title Saturday at the IHSA Swimming and Diving State Meet. Huntley's Gavin Heard won four titles in the AWD Division.

Jacob Gramer will be in three of DeKalb-Sycamore's four entries as the co-op competes in the IHSA State Swimming Championships beginning Friday.
